Bunny pumpkin carving ideas

You will need

Medium to large pumpkin
Serrated kitchen knife
A large spoon or ice cream scoop
Pen
Printer (Optional)
Some masking tape

Step 1

Cut a circle in the top of the pumpkin to form a lid. If you do this at an angle this will help stop it falling in.

Step 2

Scoop out the soft contents, leaving the wall of the pumpkin. An ice cream scoop works well for this.

Step 3

Copy out the templates at the top of the page. To help we drew a grid on the templates so if you draw this grid first you can then use it to guide you.

Step 4

Attach the template to the pumpkin using tape.

Step 5

Use a pen to make a dotted line along all the lines on the template. Make sure you pierce the paper each time so that you are left with dotted lines on the pumpkin that will act as a guide. Remember to keep the template to refer to when you are carving.

Take a serrated kitchen knife and start by making rough cuts you get the big pieces of pumpkin out first. You can go back and clean up the edges of your design later. It can help to hold the pumpkin in your lap as it is easier when the face is gazing up at you.

Try spreading petroleum jelly on the cut edges as this will help to seal in moisture.

If your pumpkin still shrivels a few days later, it can be revived by soaking in cold water for up to eight hours.

Another great tip is to make a chimney. Simply look to see where the lid has blackened and cut a small hole there to let the heat out.
