Is it OK to use my rabbit’s used litter or poops as compost in the garden, and if so which litter is suitable?
You can compost your rabbits litter!
If you use the right type of litter you can use the toilet waste from your rabbit as a composting material. Unlike cat and dogs rabbits diets are mostly fibre and vegetables so their poops are perfectly fine for composting. Even if it has some pee mixed in with it this will be fine. You will need to buy a biodegradable litter such as a paper based litter, ask at your pet store or check the packaging. We recommend paper based litter as dusty litter can cause respiratory problems with rabbits, similarly wood based litter can also contain chemicals that are also not very good for rabbits. Some people have also complained that composting pine or wood chip has caused ants to invade their garden.
